The Things We Keep 16/62 A3

Part of The Things We Keep, a photographic exhibition presented at The Front Room Gallery for Melbourne Design Week 2026.

Each artwork began with a personal object belonging to a creative, collector, designer, artist, or maker from across Australia. These objects were then handed to photographers, not simply to be documented, but interpreted - transforming private possessions into shared artworks shaped by memory, atmosphere, and emotional response.

Presented as a limited edition of 20, each A3 artwork is printed in Melbourne on fine art cotton rag paper as part of an exclusive companion release available through The Hub General Store. Artwork printing leadtime up to 1 week.

Photographer: Lisa Murray

Creative / Collector: Bruce Rowe

16/62. I bought this folding ruler sometime in the late 1980s. Although I’ve used it as one, it’s not really a practical tool as it lacks precision and accuracy. But I’ve kept it because it represents a kind of orientation - a way of understanding the relationship between scale, proportion and space through the body. It opens slowly and physically, segment by segment. It reminds me that understanding unfolds gradually, through repetition, handling and use.
